Can I Wear My Nose Ring to the Interview? The Crash Course : Finding, Landing, and Keeping Your First Real Job is a great book for anyone looking for a job, especially college students who don’t have a great deal of experience in job-seeking. Copies are available at all three Hickey College Library branches (HF5382.7 .R449 2009).
This entertaining book is well-organized and easily leads the reader through the various steps needed to land a good job…from motivating yourself to begin a job search all of the way up to knowing what to do after you’ve had a job for a while and have decided that it is time to move on to a new, better position.
Much of the information is provided in a Q&A format. Sample questions include:
I’m shy. Talking to people I don’t know is scary! Do I really have to do this?
How do I blow my own horn without sounding conceited?
What if I truly have no references, never mind a choice of references?
Do I really have to wear a suit to the interview?
The author has included real-life examples of what to do under various situations that may come up in the job-seeking process as well as samples of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ résumés, cover letters and reference sheets. Check it out today!
